The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, has presented the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Guwor Emomotimi, with the prestigious award of ‘Most Outstanding Stewardship in Legislative Business 2024’. The award was handed over during a brief ceremony at the Speaker’s office on Tuesday.

Why the Award?
While presenting the award, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, NUJ Delta State Chairman, highlighted the reasons for the recognition. He praised the Speaker’s effective leadership and ability to manage the affairs of the House smoothly, noting his significant contributions to legislative progress.

“We appreciate how you’ve demonstrated control, leadership, and progress in legislative business. This award reflects your efforts in steering the House forward,” Oyowe stated.
He also commended the Speaker’s media team, particularly Mr Nkem Nwaeke, his Chief Press Secretary, for promoting the House’s activities to the public. “Without their hard work, many people would not know about the good work happening in the Delta State House of Assembly,” Oyowe added.
Speaker Guwor’s Response
In response, Rt. Hon. Guwor Emomotimi expressed his gratitude for the award, dedicating it to the members of the House and his constituents in Warri South West.

“This award inspires me to work harder and deliver more for the people. I am grateful to my colleagues and the people of my constituency for giving me this platform,” the Speaker said.
He also took the opportunity to address the need for professionalism in journalism, urging the NUJ to take action against fake journalists. “Journalism is a noble profession, and we need to ensure that only ethical practices are upheld. Let us work to remove quacks who misuse the title of journalist,” he emphasized.
