In Warri, Delta State, a 35-year-old man named Ismaila was caught and beaten by a group of people on Wednesday after being accused of stealing a church keyboard.
The incident happened in the Okumagba area, where an angry crowd attacked Ismaila, placed a car tire around his neck, and paraded him through the streets from Willie Street to Okumagba Avenue.
The situation became dangerous as the mob prepared to set him on fire. Thankfully, mobile police officers arrived just in time to save him. The police took him to the “B” Division Police Station, promising to investigate further and find out if he had any partners in the crime.
Some people in the crowd were unhappy with the police for stopping them, saying they wanted to punish him to teach others a lesson.
For now, Ismaila is in police custody, and investigations are ongoing.
