In a significant development, the Delta State Police Command has intensified efforts to arrest Eruteyan Eradajaye, the former Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, following his alleged involvement in the murder of Sam Akemu. The incident, rooted in a dispute over sand extraction in Adagbrasa-Ugolo community, has raised alarm across the state.
Eradajaye, who also served as the Chairman of Adagbrassa-Ugolo community, was reportedly sacked from his government position immediately after the allegations surfaced. According to the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, Eradajaye has gone into hiding, and law enforcement is working tirelessly to track him down.
The confrontation, which initially revolved around disagreements over sand distribution, spiralled into violence. According to police reports, Eradajaye allegedly demanded two trips of sand daily from the local dealer, Akemu. When Akemu offered only one trip per day, tensions escalated, culminating in a brutal altercation.
On the day of the incident, Eradajaye reportedly visited the police station to report the fight, showing injuries from the confrontation. However, soon after, Akemu’s brother arrived at the station, accusing Eradajaye of causing Akemu’s death. The police investigation revealed that Eradajaye had sought brief medical attention before disappearing.
Delta State Police Commissioner Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered an intensive manhunt for Eradajaye, assuring the public that justice will be served. He emphasized that no one is above the law, and the full weight of the law will be applied once the suspect is apprehended.
This case has not only led to the dismissal of a high-ranking aide but also stirred conversations around the abuse of power and community conflicts in the region. The Delta State Government, in a swift response, urged residents not to engage in any official matters with Eradajaye, further distancing itself from the unfolding legal drama.
