The Delta State Government has established an inter-ministerial committee to create or domesticate laws that address energy generation, distribution, and revenue collection. This move follows the directive by the federal government for states to generate electricity.
Dr. Festus Okubor, the Chief Strategist to the State Governor, disclosed this during a media briefing at his office in Government House, Asaba, the state capital.
Dr Okubor highlighted that the committee’s primary objective is to formulate the legal framework for the State House of Assembly to pass it into law. He emphasized that the issue of electricity in the state is a top priority for the governor, and the committee will work towards achieving the goal of a sustainable and consistent power supply.
In addition, Dr Okubor acknowledged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s recent Supreme Court victory, stating that it is a testament to the grace of God. He emphasized that the governor’s administration would do all that God would have done for the state if He were the one administering it directly. He also noted that his role, as the Chief Strategist, is to assist the government in strategizing on political, economic, and other issues.
Okubor further mentioned that Warri, as a commercial hub of the state, requires attention and investment for its development. He explained that the government would focus on areas that require investment to impact society positively.
He also stated that the government’s policy on the revitalization of industries is to create an enabling environment for investors to invest and for businesses to thrive.
Dr. Okubor emphasized that facilities must be available to attract businesses and investors. He noted that before international companies could invest in Warri, the environment must be conducive, and the facilities must be available.
“The government must provide modern gadgets to treat patients in case of an emergency and build better stadiums to attract football games like Arsenal,” these are the policies that the Delta State Government would actualize to improve the quality of life for Deltans, the Chief Strategic to the Governor added.
