The Delta State Government has approved the development of a waterfront and the construction of a six-lane road within the Anwai River down to the city center in Asaba, the state capital.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Anaigwu, to Journalists immediately after the State Executive meeting at the government house in Asaba, on Tuesday.
According to Mr. Anaigwu, the state executives have agreed to pay compensation to those individuals who own lands within the area of the waterfront development and the area of the construction of the six-lane road.
Mr. Anaigwu also said the government has approved the construction of the second phase of the Umunede/Ogwashi-Uku old road which formally refers to as the old Lagos/Asaba road.
The Information Commissioner added that the construction of the parameter road and fence at the Asaba International Airport was also approved, to meet up with international best practices and to prevent individuals that want to have access to the air site and the incursion of animals that may have access to the runway.
While still speaking, he said due to the poor performances of the power-holding companies, the state hospitals are still bearing the brunt of inadequate power supply, and this has made the government also adopt renewable energy means by providing solar panels to several General hospitals in the state.
He said as a government they are more desirous to finish strong, which is why they have to engage a consultant to help reconcile their FAAC Account, due to the kind of remittance they got from the financial institutions as regards the 30 percent derivation fund which is been paid into the reconciliation account.
