Portable To Face Six-count Charge in Court – Police PRO

The Nigeria Police Force has said that controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name, Portable will be facing more than a six-count charge when he appears in Court following his uncontrollable conduct and incitement against Police officers.

CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Police Public Relations Officer, made this known through a post on Twitter on Saturday, stating that the musician allegedly injured a policeman and beat up a fellow in the Otta area of Ogun State, while also resisting arrest.

While responding to an inquiry, the PPRO said “I am sure you are, very awake as I have addressed MCs case, but Portable has more than 6 count charges to attend to, apart from resisting arrest and injuring a policeman.

“He will be charged to court for beating up a guy in Otta, who filed a petition to CP Ogun.

“There are many pending cases of assaults on people and attacks, and he will be investigated because people have complained against him.

“So, there is no sentiment in law, let him appear in court, and allow the judge to listen to the charges against him. He has no constitutional immunity anyway. Ire o.”

It was widely circulated during the week that the police had arrested the singer, after the expiration of a 72-hour ultimatum to turn himself in.

This had been confirmed by the Ogun State police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi who said the “Zazoo Zeh” crooner was arrested on Friday and he was at the state headquarters of the police in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

On Tuesday, It was reported how Portable was in hot exchanges with operatives of the Nigerian police force who stormed his bar to arrest him.

The incident was captured on his verified Instagram page in live videos, where the Zazu Zeh crooner was seen challenging the authority of the police as they attempted to cart him away.

Portable made certain to question the officers about his offence and even demanded to see their identification cards. He also rebuffed the officers’ attempts to stop him, telling them that he was a superstar and celebrity.

According to one of the officers, they came to arrest the singer because of the petition against him, and they told him that he is not above the law and cannot dictate how they operate.

The police later revealed that they had received a petition against the singer and had summoned him for questioning five times, but he had refused each time. According to the police command, they went to pick him up from his bar after obtaining a warrant, but he resisted arrest.

The singer was later arrested by Ogun State police command on Friday March 31.
