General Ibrahim Babangida, former Nigeria Head of State, has revealed why has not taken another wife after losing his late wife, Hajiya Maryam Babangida.
He said he decided to honor his late wife by being unmarried.
The former military leader who ruled Nigeria for eight years said this during an interview with Daily Trust when asked why he has not taken another wife since then.
According to him, he said “The media still snoop around me. They should have known, I haven’t. It is a matter of choice; I decided to honor her by being not a bachelor but being unmarried.”
On December 27, 2009, Maryam Babangida, who was Nigeria’s first lady between 1985 and 1993 died after battling ovarian cancer for years at the age of 61.
She died at the University of California’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Centre (JCCC) in Los Angeles, United States.
