An Anglican Church Bishop of Kenya, Joel Waweru, has been charged for allegedly attempting to caress and kiss a woman forcefully without her permission.
The Bishop was arraigned for two criminal charges related to sexual assault before the Kibra Law Court on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, an offense he willingly denied.
K24 Digital reported that the cleric allegedly committed the offences on different dates in Lang’ata Sub-County within Nairobi County.
According to K24, the woman told the police that Waweru had on several occasions said that he liked her because she was beautiful.
It was gathered that the woman further alleged that the Bishop was obsessed with her even though she is married.
She added that the obsession pushed her into filing a complaint as she became extremely insecure and frustrated.
In response to the petition, the clergyman pleaded not guilty and requested forgiving terms.
The magistrate, Derrick Kuti ruled that he should be granted on ksh50,000 cash bail and therefore adjourned the case to a fortnight.
Also, it was gathered that Bishop Waweru was also charged with a second count of touching the breast of J.N.M indecently on July 13, 2021.
