Ex Cameroonian and International footballer, Samuel Eto’o, has emerged as the president of the football association in its country.
Eto’o became the head of the football association after defeating Seidou Mbombo Njoya, the fourth vice-president at the Confederation of African Football on Saturday.
It was gathered that withdraws out of the seven competitors contesting for the position discontinued the race on the morning of the election.
Among those who resigned their candidacy during the election were former Cameroon international Maboang Kesack and Jules Denis Onana.
The election ignited popular scrutiny with the proceedings of a national live broadcast from Cameroon television.
The four-time African Footballer of the Year promised to reform the sports industry in a wide range.
The former Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Chelsea stars said: “We have to bring footballer’s to the center of our policies, afterwards, it is our role to ensure that those who play this discipline make a decent living out of it.”
He also promised to construct at least 10 stadiums during his mandate, stating that “I’ve spoken to the business community and we’re certain we’ll get the right investors who can accompany us in fulfilling our goals.”
With this new development, Eto’o will now lead the way for the Cameroon FA as the country prepares to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2022.
