On Tuesday, gunmen raided Diete Koki Memorial Hospital in the Opolo area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.
The gunmen robbed the doctor on duty alongside patients of their money and other belongings.
It was gathered that the robbers scaled the perimeter fence of the state-owned health facility to gain entry from the back.
Narrating the invasion, Awudumapu Okeleghel, a medical doctor said the robbers are two in number and they took him unaware, as he was returning from his call room.
According to Dr. Okeleghel, he said: “My belongings and those of patients from the labor ward and their family members were all taken by the criminals.”
Also speaking is the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Emmanuel Fetepigi, who described the act as barbaric and unfortunate.
He said the hospital management would work together with the Ministry of Health to assure that measures were put in place to forestall a recurrence.
Dr. Emmanuel Fetepigi also said it is the second time the hospital will be raided stating that some criminals had once stolen its generator.
Meanwhile, as of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, Asinim Butswat said the occurrence had not been reported to the police.
