Wike reveals position on defection to other parties

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said he cannot defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or any other political party.

He disclosed this in a statement sighted by newsmen on Friday, December 11. In the statement which was released by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri, Governor Wike said since he cannot defect to the APC or another political party, he will continue to do what he can to ensure the survival of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor said this after claiming that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP is causing disunity in the party and are not interested in taking over from the APC in 2023. His words: “I will not allow anybody to kill PDP. They have the capacity to move to APC. I don’t and I cannot move to APC. “So, anybody that tries to do something to destroy PDP, I will not allow you. Anybody that I see that has the trait to destroy the PDP, I will not allow it.”

Meanwhile, in another report, Governor Wike has said that his Benue counterpart, Samuel Ortom, has no plan to return to the APC, contrary to unverified, viral claims.

Wike made this declaration while he commissioned road projects completed by governor Ortom in Makurdi and Guma area of the state.

However, it was earlier reported that Bello Matawalle, governor of Zamafara, hailed his colleague Dave Umahi of Ebonyi over his defection from the PDP to the APC.

through his spokesperson, Zailani Bappa, on Friday, November 27, in a statement, Matawale commended the Ebonyi governor’s defection, saying there is “bad blood in the present Peoples Democratic Party.” Matawalle, while commending Umahi for “taking a bold decision”, also said he has been having “a very bad experience of recent from some of my PDP Governor colleagues.”
