“The importance my administration places on Justice delivery cannot be overemphasized, evidently the summit underscores that “
The Executive Governor of Delta State, Sen Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, made this statement at the statehouse on the 12th of May, 2022, during a Stakeholders summit on the review of the Delta State Administration of Criminal law, 2016.
Gov Okowa ably represented by His Chief of Staff, Hon Ovie Agas hinted that “we would not have finished strong if we don’t look at Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL), “ he further stated that “this summit underscores the importance my administration places on the justice system and delivery, I am particularly pleased with the assemblage of the caliber of personalities here at this review…”
Speaking further he said that before the enactment of ACJL in 2015, the situation of JCL was epileptic, from slowness to ineffective plans for cases even in the most important cases amongst others” This led to the 2015 Enactment of the Delta state Administration of Criminal Justice Law and passed in 2016.
“The current status quo has lived up to its purpose but there are lags,” he also hinted that “it is far better and effective than it was from defunct Bendel state, but since the advent of covid, increase in organized crime amongst others there’s been a need to address the current status quo to ensure efficiency, Reduce delayed trials, eliminate reluctance of witnesses to give evidence amongst others and to help ACJL in delta state keep up with the trend and speed of development.”
While appreciating everyone present for the review he commended the attorney general and Commissioner for Justice of the State, Hon Isaiah Bozimo ESQ. for his foresight towards attaining a more efficient ACJL and placing delta state at the top of the creative map in Criminal Justice Administration (CJL).
