WhatsApp is reportedly working on an update that could introduce a revamped design for the Updates tab.
This tab is primarily meant for viewing the temporary photo and video posts, popularly known as ‘Stories’, that users post on the platform.
The new design would bring larger thumbnails of unseen Stories to the top of the Updates tab, along with a preview of the first one, making it easier for users to catch up with everything they haven’t seen yet. This would be particularly useful for users with a large number of friends and family posting updates.
The new design has been spotted in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android by WABetaInfo (via Android Authority). While it is not clear whether the feature will make its way to the stable version of WhatsApp, it is believed that the new interface could be optional or something that everyone gets, depending on the developers’ decision.
Currently, users can view new Stories from the individuals and channels they are connected to, regardless of whether they have interacted with them recently. They can create a new status update themselves from the same screen. Stories can also be accessed from the main chat tab, though it’s possible to miss updates if there are people further down the list that users haven’t chatted to recently.
All in all, the upcoming design change is expected to make it easier for users to catch up with their friends’ updates, without having to miss out on any of the latest posts.
