On Friday, President Donald Trump warned Russia that he might impose new penalties, called sanctions and tariffs if they don’t agree to a peace deal with Ukraine soon. He expressed concern over Russia’s recent heavy attacks on Ukraine and urged both countries to negotiate before the situation worsens.
This warning came after Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine’s energy facilities, using 99 drones and missiles. These attacks caused significant damage to Ukraine’s power infrastructure, leading to widespread blackouts and affecting many civilians.
President Trump has also paused U.S. military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, aiming to encourage both sides to come to the negotiating table. He mentioned that dealing with Russia might be easier than with Ukraine to end the war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia on Monday to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Following this, Ukrainian officials are expected to hold talks with U.S. counterparts in the Middle Eastern kingdom, seeking support for peace initiatives.
The situation remains tense, with international efforts focusing on bringing both Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table to achieve a peaceful resolution.
