Unused data must be rolled over to the next subscription – NCC

The Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) has directed that telecommunications companies in the country must ensure that unused data by subscribers are rolled over in subsequent subscriptions.

The commission gave the directive on Thursday, September 17, in a statement issued through its spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ayinde.

“The commission hereby wishes to restate that its direction of June 2018 to service providers to commence implementation of data rollover from 26 June 2018, remains in force,” the NCC said.

It urged telecommunication companies to regularly update their subscribers on the procedures and processes for data rollover. According to the agency, the conclusion on the directive was reached at its regular bi-annual meeting with senior executives of telecommunication companies on complaints management. It disclosed that the virtual meeting focused on consumer relations and complaint management processes. In recent times, the NCC has stepped up its enforcement procedure to make sure that telecom subscribers get the best deals for their money.

Recall that the agency in the past called for telecom companies to reduce the price of data and calls for Nigerians.

The minister of communications and digital economy, Isa Ibrahim Pantami had made the demand for data reduction. He has urged telecom companies to reduce the price of data to reciprocate the federal government’s gesture of ensuring the protection of telecom infrastructures across the country.
