Unhappy Retirees Protest at Chevron HQ Over Pension Issues

Tuesday, November 19, 2024 – A group of retired employees from Chevron Nigeria Limited gathered in front of the company’s headquarters in Lagos to express their anger and frustration. The retirees, who were carrying signs with strong messages, were protesting against the company’s alleged mistreatment of them.

The protesters’ signs read: “We say no to the dissolution of CNCPFA”, “Chevron stop discrimination against retirees”, and “Nigeria is a sovereign nation: respect our laws above your policies”. They were unhappy about not receiving their pensions and the outsourcing of their pension fund.

One of the signs pleaded with Chevron to “treat us like other IOCs. Be considerate for once”, highlighting their demand for fair treatment. The protesters also wanted to know if Chevron had stopped doing business in Nigeria and accused the company of not keeping its promises to pensioners.

Another sign detailed their grievances, listing: “Breaking Nigerian law, disdain for pensioners, non-engagement of PenCon, and frozen pension for decades”. The protest showed the retirees’ determination to have their voices heard and their concerns addressed by Chevron.

The protest was a peaceful but loud cry for action, and it remains to be seen how Chevron will respond to the retirees’ demands.
