Twitter, the social media company has filed a lawsuit against the world’s richest man for trying to withdraw from the $44 billion acquisition deal.
The company complains that Musk’s withdrawal strategy is an example of hypocrisy.
According to the lawsuit that was filed on Tuesday in the Delaware Court of Chancery where the company is incorporated, Twitter is saying that Musk is refusing to “honor his obligations” under their agreement and they are seeking to make him complete the bargain they declared openly on April 25.
In the lawsuit, the company writes that “Twitter brings this action to enjoin Musk from further breaches, to compel Musk to fulfill his legal obligations, and to compel consummation of the merger upon satisfaction of the few outstanding conditions.”
As reported by The Verge, Musk claims that Twitter has failed to satisfy his requests for information about bot activity and spam on the platform.
Though Catherine Hill, a spokesperson for Twitter, did not comment beyond the legal filing, the company board chairman Bret Taylor said in a brief tweet that the lawsuit is aimed at “holding Elon Musk accountable”.
Immediately after Twitter had filed the suit, Musk answered back with a tweet saying, “Oh the irony lol.”
