Tompolo Donates ₦10 Billion as Oborevwori Relaunches Delta Security Trust Fund

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has officially launched the Delta State Security Trust Fund, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to making the state safer, stronger, and more prosperous through teamwork between the government and private sector.

The event took place on Wednesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Asaba and brought together top business leaders, security chiefs, and community representatives.

Among the notable guests were Mr Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Group Chairman of Access Holdings Plc, who chaired the event; Mr Jim Ovia, Founder and Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc, who served as Special Guest of Honour; and High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), Chairman of Tantita Security Services Limited, who served as the Chief Launcher with a huge donation of ₦10 billion.

What the Security Trust Fund Is About

Governor Oborevwori explained that the Security Trust Fund was first established in 2013 to create a way for the private sector to help fund security efforts in the state.

He said the Fund would be used to buy modern surveillance equipment, patrol vehicles, and communication gadgets, and to train and retrain security officers and community vigilante groups across the state’s 25 local government areas.

“Security is everyone’s business, not just the government’s,” the Governor said. “Without peace and safety, there can be no progress, no jobs, and no investments.”

He also revealed that 0.5% of the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) will be set aside every month for the Trust Fund, and he called on individuals and private companies to also contribute.

“Your contributions are not just donations — they are investments in peace, stability, and economic prosperity,” he added, promising that all funds will be managed transparently.

Governor Oborevwori mentioned that his administration has rebranded Operation Delta Hawk into Operation Delta Sweep, a joint security team made up of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, DSS, and Civil Defence Corps.

He said the joint task force has already recorded major successes, such as recovering illegal weapons from criminals.

The Governor also highlighted other efforts to tackle the root causes of insecurity — such as poverty, unemployment, and youth restiveness — through job creation, agriculture programs, and infrastructure projects across the state.

“Peace and security are stronger when young people and women have opportunities to earn a living,” he said.

Chairman of the event, Mr Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, praised the Governor’s leadership, describing the launch as “a defining moment” for Delta State.

He announced a ₦100 million donation from himself and his wife, Ofure, saying the Fund could raise as much as ₦100 billion in 2025.

“This launch is not the end — it’s the beginning of something great. Together, we will make Delta safer and stronger,” he said.

Mr Jim Ovia of Zenith Bank also commended the initiative, calling it a smart and forward-looking move. “Security is the foundation of business and peace. This Fund will make Delta a better place for everyone,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), Chief Keston Pondi said Tantita Security Services was proud to support the project, describing it as a “strategic investment in peace and progress.”

A retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Marvel Akpoyibo, gave the keynote address, stressing that development and security must go hand in hand. He also commended the Governor’s focus on road development, saying it improves both safety and connectivity.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Trust Fund, Mr Samuel Osasa, said the relaunch was to strengthen the Fund and adapt it to new security challenges. He explained that over the years, the Fund had helped security agencies with vehicles, equipment, and facilities — including new installations for the State Police Command.

He appealed to private companies and individuals to continue supporting the Fund, assuring that all donations would be used properly and transparently.

The event ended with goodwill messages, pledges, and renewed calls for collaboration among citizens, businesses, and government agencies.

With the Delta State Security Trust Fund now officially relaunched, the state hopes to attract more investments, create jobs, and build a future where peace and progress go hand in hand.
