The Summit Club of Asaba has extended its congratulations to Prof. Epiphany Azinge on his recent coronation as the 14th Asagba of Asaba. The event, held over the weekend in the historic city of Asaba, Delta State, was marked by a colorful ceremony that drew dignitaries and locals to celebrate the occasion.
During the festivities, Mr. Ike Okonkwo, spokesperson for the Summit Club, spoke to the press, describing Prof. Azinge, SAN, as the club’s patron and a distinguished academic who has made significant contributions to Nigeria’s legal and academic fields.
“It is an honor and privilege for the Summit Club to witness the coronation of our leader, the Asagba of Asaba. Growing up, we learned about the culture and traditions surrounding succession and coronation,” Okonkwo remarked.
He added, “It is a joy to see our 14th Asagba, Obi Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN, successfully navigate the process leading to this formal handover. It demonstrates the robustness of our traditional system, a tradition that has thrived for over 700 years. The journey began in February with the transition, selection, and succession processes, culminating in this grand ceremony. We are proud of the richness of our heritage.”
Okonkwo further emphasized the high expectations the people of Asaba have for their new monarch, noting that the community’s culture is deeply rooted in tradition.
Reflecting on Prof. Azinge’s past, he shared, “I remember him as the impeccable Senior Prefect at Saint Patrick’s College (SPC), Asaba. We used to bet on finding a stain on his spotless white shirts, but no one ever won. He is an exceptional individual, and I am confident he will continue to build on the remarkable legacy of the 13th Asagba.”
