Something amazing just happened at a big hospital in Sokoto called Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH). For the very first time, doctors there successfully performed a kidney transplant—that’s when a sick kidney in someone’s body is replaced with a healthy one from another person. This special operation took place at a centre in the hospital that focuses on helping people with kidney and urinary problems.
Many important people came to celebrate this great achievement. Mr. Salisu Bakari, who works with an organization called TETFund, said the hospital did an excellent job. He was really proud because UDUTH did better than 26 other hospitals in Nigeria that also receive support from TETFund. He also promised that TETFund will continue helping the hospital grow, not just for Sokoto but for the whole of Africa!
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Bashir Garba, thanked the brilliant doctors, especially Professor Ismail Mungadi, who led the medical team. He said the university will keep supporting the hospital so more people can get the help they need without traveling far away.
Even the governors of Sokoto and Kebbi States were excited! They promised to help the hospital with money and build special places where kidney patients can recover after surgery. The Governor of Sokoto State even gave the hospital ₦10 million to show his support.
The Sultan of Sokoto, who is a very respected leader in Nigeria, also sent a message saying he was proud of the hospital. He promised that his council will always be there to support the hospital’s growth.
Thanks to this big achievement, people who have serious kidney problems won’t need to travel outside Nigeria to get help. They can now receive quality care right here at home. This is a huge step forward for healthcare in Nigeria!
