Sir Reginald Bayoko, the former Head of Service of Delta State, has retired after 35 years of serving in the government. He said he is leaving behind a hardworking and motivated team of workers.
Bayoko made this statement in Asaba during a grand farewell ceremony organized by the Delta State Government in his honour. He served as the Head of Service for almost nine years and helped bring improvements such as better salaries, peaceful work environments, and more training opportunities for government workers.
At the event, Bayoko encouraged his successor, Mrs. Minnie Oseji, to continue the good work he started. He also promised to always be available to offer advice whenever needed.
Speaking at the Olorogun Felix Ibru Secretariat Complex and the Professor Chike Edozien Secretariat Complex, he asked civil servants to cooperate with Mrs Oseji and support government programs. He urged them to remain dedicated and set a good example in their duties.
The highlight of the event was a special farewell parade. Officers from the State Fire Service, Delta State Environmental Management Agency (DESMA), and Forest Guards mounted a guard of honour. After inspecting the parade, Bayoko was ceremonially pulled out of service by the College of Permanent Secretaries, while friends, colleagues, and well-wishers cheered.
Sir Reginald Bayoko began his career as an Investment and Loan Officer in Bendel State in 1990. He became a Permanent Secretary in 2006 before turning 40. Ten years later, he became the Head of Service—the youngest and the first Izon man to hold the position. He remained in the role for nearly nine years, making a lasting impact on Delta State’s civil service.
