Nigerian singer and songwriter, Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, better known as Simi has expressed her viewpoint as regards couples cohabiting before marriage.
She said it is good for intending couples to live together before they get married, revealing that she was cohabiting with Adekunle Gold, her husband before they got married.
The singer who declared her support for couples cohabiting before marriage made these revelations while speaking at the latest episode of the Tea With Tay podcast.
She pointed out numerous advantages it brings to a relationship saying it is a means to better understand one another. According to her, cohabiting would allow an intending couple to know each other better before deciding to tying the knot.
Simi said “I used to go over to Adekunle Gold’s place for us to spend time together. I am of the opinion that…Maybe I shouldn’t share this opinion because I feel like religious people might not agree with me. Personally, I think that people who want to get married should live together for a little bit before they do that because I don’t think you really know someone that you’re going to marry until you cohabit.”
“The way someone is outside in their best behaviour is different from how they are when they are cranky and they haven’t eaten or when they wake up in the morning or when they are snoring.”
“When you live with someone you know all the sides to them, that is when you really know if you can do forever with them. Millions of people have gotten married without living together. But I personally think it’s a good idea to cohabit before marriage. It doesn’t have to be for long.”
Her opinion aligns with the idea that going through the nitty-gritty of day-to-day life together can reveal compatibility issues early on, potentially preventing larger conflicts down the road.
Simi perspective challenges conventional norms and raises questions about the significance of pre-marital cohabitation.
