Ace Nigerian Comedian and actor, Bright Okpocha, popularly known by his stage name Basketmouth, has revealed why he collaborated with over eight established artists in his ‘Yabasi’ album and how he meets Flavour and Phyno before embarking on the project.
Basketmouth made these revelations while speaking with the participants of the Tony Elumelu Foundation during an Instagram live session.
According to Basketmouth while explaining the reason why he collaborated the established artists stated that as long as you are partnering with the right person you can hardly go wrong. Stating that, he wasn’t selfish with the process and he wasn’t there in the album even as he rap.
He revealed that he needed numbers as well as people that have good followers because of the kind of music that he was going to make.
Basketmouth also revealed that he did not select any artists based on friendship while maintaining that he selected them based on who can deliver.
While still responding, he mentioned that the album is not about shaking bum because he needed an album that can be played by both young and old family members.
Also, he further mentioned that when planning for the album, the first people he talked to was Flavour and Phyno stating that, he didn’t do it over the phone but according to him, he went to visit them and told them the story, making them understand his goals and purpose before involving others.
He also said even though these guys might want to do it for him based on relationship and love, he also needs to give them something that will interest them stating that the first thing he did was to get the right producer, Duktor Sett, for the project.
Basketmouth described the ‘Yabasi’ project as a purpose-made music album that had all tracks produced by Duktor Sett.
In the album, Basketmouth collaborated with Flavour, Duncan Mighty, Ice Prince, Waje, Phyno, Peruzzi, ill Bliss, Umu Obiligbo, Ladipoe, and others.
