Popular Nigerian comedian Sabinus has stirred reactions online after opening up about a painful chapter in his love life, revealing how a grand romantic gesture ended in heartbreak and regret.
The skit maker, whose real name is Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, made the revelation during a recent TikTok livestream with social media personality Sandra Benede. The conversation quickly turned emotional as Sabinus weighed in on the ongoing breakup drama involving TikTok star Hamzat Habeeb, popularly known as Peller.
Sabinus said he strongly sympathises with Peller, who has been trending after his breakup with girlfriend Elizabeth Amadou, also known as Jarvis. According to the comedian, he understands the emotional pressure Peller is facing because he has been through a similar situation himself.
Recently Peller recently made headlines after suffering emotional breakdowns and getting involved in a serious car accident, which many linked to the emotional stress from the breakup. He was later hospitalised and subsequently arrested by authorities in line with existing traffic laws.
Sharing his own experience, Sabinus revealed that he once went as far as buying a Range Rover for a former lover out of love, only for the relationship to crash later.
“Love is cruel. I have been in Peller’s situation before. I once gifted a girl a Range Rover because of love, and she later left me. I regretted it. So nobody should blame Peller,” Sabinus said during the livestream.
The comedian urged Nigerians and social media users to show empathy toward Peller, stressing that heartbreak can push people into actions they might not normally take.
Sabinus’ comments also come months after he confirmed that his own marriage had ended. In December 2025, he disclosed during another TikTok livestream that his marriage to his wife and the mother of his child, Ciana Chapman, had collapsed.
The comedian married Chapman in a private ceremony in 2023, but the union reportedly lasted just over a year, adding more context to his recent reflections on love and heartbreak.
