President Muhammadu Buhari has on Tuesday, December 1, been told to resign from the seat of power following the spate of attacks and rising insecurity in the country, with the government seemingly appearing helpless.
Making this demand is the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) which slammed the presidency for being insensitive to the attacks on Nigerians living in local communities. The forum, which spoke through its spokesperson Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, said lives under the current government are valueless, and the most expected of a helpless leader is to resign honourably.
“Under this administration, life has lost its value, and more and more citizens are coming under the influence of criminals. We do not see any evidence of a willingness on the part of President Buhari to honour his oath to provide security over Nigerians. “In civilized nations, leaders who fail so spectacularly to provide the security will do the honourable thing and resign.”
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has urged President Buhari to have a rethink on war against terrorism.
Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, made the call during a plenary on Tuesday, December 1, amid continuous reactions trailing the killing of the rice farmers in Borno state on Saturday, November 28, by Boko Haram. Addressing his colleagues on the November 28 attack, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila said the death of the 43 farmers has brought “untold grief .”
