In a small town called Isseke, in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, the police found something very dangerous — a hidden place where some bad people were secretly making bombs.
This place, which police officers called a “bomb factory,” was being used by a group that wants to break away from Nigeria. They had been hiding there for a long time, using it as a base to cause trouble in the area.
The police, along with other security teams, went to the camp and found several dangerous items called Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) — these are homemade bombs that can cause a lot of damage.
While they were trying to clear the area, one of the bombs that had been buried under the ground suddenly exploded. Luckily, no one was hurt in the blast, but part of the road was damaged.
According to Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the police in Anambra, the bomb that went off was meant to stop the police and make it hard for them to get inside the camp.
The police team was very careful and were able to safely destroy all the other bombs. They have also taken control of the area to make sure the bad people do not come back.
This secret camp had been used for over two years by the group to plan and carry out attacks. But now, thanks to the hard work of the police and other security officers, it is no longer in use.
The police say they will continue to protect the area and make sure that communities stay safe from harm.
