Police issues warning, says no more night prayer sessions

The Ogun State Police Command has warned the general public against organizing prayer sessions at night especially in the forest area to avoid being victims of kidnappers.

This was disclosed to newsmen in a statement signed by the Police Spokesperson in Ogun, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Sunday, September 19, 2021, in Ota, Ogun state.

According to the statement, Oyeyemi pointed out that the state command has observed with great concern that despite the series of warnings and security tips from the command, some members of the public are still in the habit of organizing prayer sessions in the forest, thereby making themselves easy prey kidnappers.

The PPRO said in as much as the command is not oblivious of the right to freedom of religion, it is worthy of note that the present security situation in the country does not favorably dispose to organizing prayer sessions in isolated places.

The police spokesperson appealed to the public to refrain from creating opportunities for kidnappers to operate as the command is working assiduously to get rid of the criminal elements who turned kidnapping into business.

Again, Oyeyemi explained that security should be seen as everybody’s business while advising that we should always take advantage of our role in securing ourselves and our property adding that the scriptures even enjoined us to watch and pray.

He added that if there is any is serious reason to embark on such prayer sessions, the organization should report to the nearest police station for advice and security patrol of the area.
