The Kano State Consumer Protection Council (CPC) in conjunction with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) razed plenties of substandard, fake, and expired products worth over N1billion.
It was gathered that the products were seized within three months, of which the seizure occurred day-to-day.
The state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje who were present to witness the destruction, stated that his administration is working hard to fight and safeguard the health of his people, according to him, the state is not only dropping from a high position in drug abuse in the country but that it’s free from drug abuse.
The Governor also stated that they are working towards the establishment of a law that would ensure that those engaged in selling fake, substandard, and expired products are brought to book with serious punishment.
While still speaking, the governor commended the tireless efforts of the acting Managing Director of CPC, who also doubles as the MD Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Mr. Baffa Dan’agundi, for ensuring that kano’s market was free from fake products.
However, Dan’agundi while responding, recalled that upon assumption of duty, the governor instructed him to do everything possible to ensure that those products are no longer in existence in the state, noting that, the items being destroyed were seized within the past three months when he took the mantle of leadership.
He said those items that were seized are so dangerous to health while revealing that they have in their warehouse another one waiting to be destroyed.
According to Dan’agundi during explanation suggested that in the next three months, they might not be able to make such kind of seizure because he knew that the perpetrators already know that they are ready to prosecute anyone, added that they have arrested some of them.
Also speaking, the State NDLEA Commandant assured the governor to partner with all relevant agencies in the fight against drug abuse and other related substances, noting how collaboration will help cleanse the state from drug dealers and fake products.
