Party Loyalty at Stake — PDP Slams Members Endorsing Tinubu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong warning to its members, telling them to stop endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement on Friday, signed by National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) described such endorsements as anti-party activities that violate the PDP’s constitution and could destabilise the party.

The NWC said it had reviewed the actions of certain members, especially those openly declaring support for Tinubu and promising to work for his re-election.

“Of serious concern is the persistent public media outbursts against our Party by some prominent members whose actions and utterances, including their public declaration of support and willingness to work for the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 Presidential election… constitute a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our Party,” the statement read.

The party pointed to Section 10 (6) of its constitution, which clearly states: “No member of the party shall align with other Parties or groups to undermine the Party or any of its elected government.”

According to the PDP, these actions are already causing division, weakening loyalty, and making members leave the party, which could hurt its chances in future elections.

The NWC said it would use the disciplinary measures in Section 59 (1) of the constitution to punish members who continue this behaviour.

“We issue a strong reprimand against such anti-party activities and caution those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions,” the statement warned.

The party urged members to remain united and focus on preparations for the PDP National Convention, scheduled for 15th and 16th November 2025 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

This warning comes after a controversial move in July, when the Osun State PDP leadership caucus endorsed both Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in 2026 and President Tinubu for re-election in 2027.

Governor Adeleke, speaking after meeting PDP leaders in Osogbo, said the decision followed weeks of consultations with stakeholders across the state, from traditional rulers to market leaders.

“I remain in the PDP, the party that gave me the platform to serve the good people of Osun,” he said, while adding, “Our party in Osun has also endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027.”

The endorsement sparked speculation that Adeleke might defect to the APC, especially as SaharaReporters had earlier reported ongoing talks between him and APC leaders. Some ruling party members reportedly see his defection as a major political win.

However, Adeleke has insisted he is still committed to the PDP, and the Osun PDP leadership has pledged to support whatever political decision he makes in the future.
