Senator Dino Melaye, a key figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Kogi State, has been suspended following accusations of anti-party activities. The suspension, announced by the Ayetoro/Iluagba Ward 1 Executive Committee, is the latest in a series of actions aimed at maintaining party discipline.
According to the Ward Executive Committee, this decision comes after a thorough investigation by the disciplinary committee. The committee reviewed Melaye’s alleged misconduct, which was deemed damaging to the party’s image and interests.
The suspension notice, signed by Ward Chairman Abayomi Osamika and Secretary Yodson Dayo, highlighted that Melaye’s actions brought “embarrassment and disrepute” to the party, making it impossible for him to remain a member.
The official statement reads: “Senator Dino Melaye’s conduct has brought embarrassment and disrepute to the party, and his continued membership is no longer tenable. Therefore, the Ward party exco hereby suspends Dino Melaye from the Peoples Democratic Party, effective immediately.”
While the decision references Article 59 (1) of the PDP constitution, which gives the Ward the authority to suspend erring members, Melaye is yet to issue a formal response to the suspension. Political observers are keen to see if he will challenge the decision or remain silent amid the allegations.
This development adds to the ongoing tensions within the PDP, particularly as internal conflicts escalate ahead of upcoming elections.
