Oshimili South Local Government Chairman, Hon. Dr. Obi Kelvin Ezenyili has said his administration will never relent in its effort to actualize its development plan tagged Y-PEP AGENDA.
He said his administration will always sustain youth and women empowerment, peace and security, environment and sanitation, primary health care, and infrastructural development in the LGA.
The council boss made this known in a press briefing on ‘The Scorecard Of The Executive Chairman, Oshimili South Local Government Council’ from March 2021 to February 2023, at the council Secretariat in Asaba, the state capital on Friday.
Hon. Dr. Ezenyili who revealed some of the achievements of his administration in socio and economic development said in the quest of achieving his Y-PEP AGENDA, his administration has to set up seasoned and reputable personalities as members of the economic team and advisory body committees.
He said his administration was able to construct an ultra-modern legislative complex with state-of-the-art facilities that are awaiting commissioning and the renovation of the Executive Complex with sophisticated furnishings and appliances.
He also said there was the installation of a close-circuit television within the executive complex with plans to extend to the entire secretariat.
According to the breakdown of some of the achievements in the recent past, Hon. Ezenyili said his administration has purchased a 500kva standby generator to provide an uninterrupted power supply to the secretariat and has also built a harmonious working relationship with the legislature/management staff that resulted in an early passage of the budget.
He mentioned that his administration further collaborates with security personnel by ensuring periodic meetings are held monthly with all security personnel and agencies in the local government to ensure safety in the local government and also provide the basic needs for vigilante groups.
In terms of partnering with the private sector, he said there is a PPP arrangement to improve the infrastructural development of councils’ land by revamping/ reconstructing the local government staff quarters and also constructing modern housing apartments on behalf of the council.
He went further to say that there is an Introduction of an automated system for local government identification process and revenue collection for the council.
According to him, there is an engagement of over 240 youths as environmental marshalls to enforce compliance with extant laws / and rules regulating a clean and safe environment and also the establishment of a mobile environment court to prosecute offenders.
He added that the council also partners with Eco bank Nigeria plc to empower female petty traders at a 0% interest rate, adding that the council also provides a means to restore power through the repairs of the transformer and offsetting 50% of the outstanding electricity bill at the ogbeogonogo modern market.
He explained that his administration made provision for continuous welfare and Christmas packages to staff and the electorates and also
continue participating in the sponsorship of the annual ALGAL sports festival and winning the 2022/2023 trophy.
Explaining, he said, “We provide youth empowerment for revenue collection on behalf of the council for the stimuli youth summit).”
“Empowerment of youths, widows, and less privileged with cash gifts, partnering with renowned authors to provide and distribute books on the eradication of cultism to both primary and secondary school students in the LGA.”
“Offsetting over 60% of outstanding debts owed to contractors by the previous administration, providing palliatives for flood victims, the transmission of executive bills to the legislative house on the amendment of the revenue by-law, etc.”
“Inauguration of ad-hoc committees to wit, revenue committee (to identify/ harness IGR sources, monitor revenue collection exercise, evaluate and make yearly reports), door-to-door environment committee (daily monitoring of the state of the environment), street naming and house numbering committee (to effect strict compliance with extant laws), assets recovery committee (to recover lost assets and prosecute offenders)” the council Chairman added.
Present at the inspection is the Delta State Commissioner for Information and Spokesperson of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Mr. Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu, the Chairman of the Delta State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, and, the Chairman of the Delta State Chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Mr. Emeka Bidokwu has commended the effort of the Executive Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Dr. Obi Kelvin Ezenyili in building and tastefully furnishing the Legislative Arm of the Council.
