The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN) have been lauded for their peaceful disposition and organization.
Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on SERVICOM and Labour Relations, Comrade Mike Okeme gave this compensation during the 6th Triennial Delegate Conference which took place recently in Warri.
Comrade Okeme, who was a special guest at the occasion said that he was pleased with their comportment and display of maturity as an association, noting that they had been a great role in the Oil and Gas sector not only in the state but the nation at large.
Speaking further Okeme however told them to rise to the occasion by ensuring that they offer sound policy alternatives to both their management and government, adding that it would not only improve the revenue base of the state but also create more jobs for the teeming youths in the society.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner Ministry of Oil and Gas, Prince Emman Amgbaduba who encouraged them to aspire for national offices and positions stressing that without peace, there would be no oil available for use by the end-users, just as he recalled that oil was a general product used by every household in the country today.
In his welcome address the zonal Chairman, Comrade Tobechukwu Amalu, expressed appreciation to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his unwavering support.
He however added that the oil and gas industry had suffered series of challenges such as insecurity in the nation, job offshoring/ outsourcing, price volatility, emerging technologies, and the most devastating of them all which is the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.
He noted that the triennial conference was a period for delegates to come together to review the stewardship of the zonal executives in the past three years and to elect new leaders that would pilot the affairs of the zone for the next three years.
In his remarks, the National President of PENGASSAN, Comrade Ndukaku Ohaeri said that the oil and gas business in Nigeria had been tormented with lots of regulatory and policy inconsistencies, economic, social, and political challenges of which had impacted negatively on its operations.
He said with the sharp drop in global oil prices, coupled with the national economic recession, huge divestments by oil companies with its attendant effect on job cuts could have a negative impact on the industry.
He nevertheless commended the management under the Warri zone for its understanding, co-operation and collaboration for the amicable resolutions of industrial relations issues and industrial harmony within the oil and gas sector.
The occasion featured a lecture with the topic” Development and Effective Leadership and Management Skills for Unions and Organization Sustainability, Negotiation, Arbitration, and Conflict Resolution.”
