Delta State Governor, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has achieved another historic milestone as he flagged off the construction of eight (8) four-bedroom duplexes at the commissioner’s quarters in Asaba, the state capital.
He said the construction of the eight four-bedroom duplexes in the Commissioner’s quarter is part of an ongoing effort to improve physical infrastructure synergy and service delivery in the state.
The Governor made this known during the groundbreaking ceremony of the construction of the eight four-bedroom duplexes in Asaba on Tuesday, stating that the contractor has a completion period of six months to complete the project due to the good weather conditions at the moment.

Oborevwori also said the commissioner’s quarter was built and furnished 22 years ago with the addition of a specialized Ministry over the years, and the number of Commissioners needed exceeds the number of houses currently in the estate. As a result, some Commissioners often feel left out and do not enjoy the sense of community of living in the quarters together.
“When you live together, there is a sense of belonging, there is also an issue of security and personal safety because living together makes Commissioners bond together.”
“It is my desire for every Commissioner to live in the distributed official quarters. As a responsive and responsible administration, I have decided to meet this need by adding eight (8) duplexes and 5 bungalows. By the time this project is completed, the total number of quarters will rise to thirty (30)”, he added.
However, the Honourable Commissioner for Housing, Godknows Angele, in his address said the Commissioner Quarters which were built about 22 years ago for 17 commissioners and 5 special advisers were adequate for the number of commissioners and the special adviser in the then administration led by the former Governor Chief James Ibori.

Angele added that the 22 duplexes are grossly inadequate for the present number of commissioners in this present administration hence some of the commissioners are either in rented apartments or Hotels. This informed why His Excellency the Governor Sheriff Oborevwari approved the speedy execution of the project so that on completion the affected Commissioners can settle down to work in a secure and serene environment.
He said the four (4) bedroom duplex comprises an anteroom, main lounge, private lounge, kitchen, guest room, laundry and 2 rooms boy’s quarter on the ground floor while the upper floor comprises a family lounge, master’s and madam’s bedroom, children room, kitchenette, study and gymnasium. And the premises shall be paved with interlocking stones among other external works.
The Housing Commissioner implores the contractor to reciprocate this gesture by showing due diligence and dedication to maintain high-quality standards and timely completion of the works to achieve the overall benefit of this project.
