Brazil has confirmed that Nigeria is now a partner country in BRICS, a group of countries working together to improve their economies and influence in the world.
BRICS, which stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is a group of powerful countries that meet to find ways to grow their economies and help each other. Brazil, which will lead the group in 2025, said Nigeria is a great addition because of its large population, strong economy, and important role in Africa.
Brazil’s Foreign Ministry explained that Nigeria’s goals match well with those of BRICS, like improving cooperation among countries in the Global South (developing nations) and making global decisions fairer for everyone.
With Nigeria joining as a partner, BRICS now includes other partner countries from Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Asia. This decision was officially made during the BRICS summit held in Kazan, Russia, in October 2024.
Nigeria’s inclusion shows how important the country is to Africa and the world.
