NGOs Mobilize to Educate Delta Students on the Risks of Cultism

In a collaborative effort to combat the rising menace of cultism in Delta State, the Eye on the Future Initiative (EFI) and Precious Family Aid Charity Foundation organized a sensitization campaign on Friday for secondary school students. The event, tagged “Back to School,” was hosted at Okpanam High School in Oshimili North Local Government Area.

The campaign aimed to educate students on the dangers of cultism and social vices that could derail their future. Speakers at the event urged the students to focus on their education and moral values, steering clear of peer pressure that might lead them into cult activities.

Mrs. Patricia Gbemudu, Executive Director of Precious Family Charity Aid Foundation, emphasized the importance of making positive life choices. “Do not disappoint your parents by getting involved in cultism,” she advised. “Cult activities can destroy your potential, and you owe it to yourself and your family to stay focused on your studies and become the leaders of tomorrow.”

Comrade Josephine Omodior, Executive Director of EFI, further reinforced the message, highlighting the lack of benefits in cultism. “Do not allow anyone to lure you into such destructive activities,” Omodior warned. She stressed the need for students to build strong moral foundations and resist any temptation to join cult groups.

Adding her voice to the cause, Comrade Eunice Emeyazia, Zonal Secretary of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), described cultism as an “evil gathering,” urging students to avoid it at all costs.

The Principal of Okpanam High School, Mr. William Dickson, expressed gratitude to the organizations for their intervention, noting that the students greatly needed such sensitization to stay clear of harmful activities. He acknowledged that the event would help guide them away from the growing influence of cultism in society.

In addition to the powerful speeches, the event also saw the distribution of educational materials to the students, further underscoring the importance of education in securing a brighter future.

This campaign is one of many steps taken by NGOs and educators in Delta State to protect young minds from the dangers of cultism and ensure they stay on the path to success.
