Abuja, Nigeria — The Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Ned Nwoko, has alleged that a group he described as a “syndicate of pull-down-Ned” is exploiting reports surrounding his marriage to Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels, in an attempt to tarnish his public image.
The claims were contained in a statement issued by the Communication/Technical Action Team, Office of the Senator, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.
Nwoko dismissed ongoing social media reports suggesting marital conflict, stating that individuals who had allegedly targeted him in the past were now using the situation to criminalise him before the international community.
“This is a coordinated gang-up,” he said
Responding to allegations of illegal land grabbing in his hometown, Nwoko said the claims were false. He explained that he was allocated land on which he established the University of Sports, a project he noted was benefiting the community.
“Anyone who seeks progress in our society is often attacked by their own people,” he said.
Speaking further, Nwoko alleged that some unnamed individuals were taking advantage of Regina Daniels, whom he claimed was dealing with health-related challenges. According to him, the situation was being manipulated to damage his reputation.
He claimed that Daniels had a history of substance use prior to their marriage and said medical records could verify this. These claims, however, have not been independently verified.
“Those exploiting her present condition to settle old scores, knowing they have no case against me, will eventually face justice,” he stated.
He also warned that persons spreading defamatory statements would be required to prove their claims in court.
Addressing renewed controversy over Daniels’ age at the time of marriage, Nwoko stated that she was born on October 10, 2000, and that if they have been married for six years, she would have been 19 years old at the time, not 17.
He said the marriage was conducted openly with the consent of her family.
“Our customs and traditions do not frown upon polygamy. I married her honorably and treated her with dignity,” he said.
The lawmaker suggested that his marriage is being weaponized by political adversaries seeking to derail his influence and developmental plans.
“This is a witch-hunt that has been ongoing for years, now intensified to tarnish me as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he added.
As of the time of this report, Regina Daniels has not publicly responded to the latest statements issued by the senator.
