An Italian club in Serie A, AS Roma, has declared openly the appointment of Jose Mourinho, as the new manager of the club for next season.
Mourinho who was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur in late April will return to the field next season after being introduced as the new manager of AS Roma. He will replace Paulo Fonseca, who will be leaving at the end of the season after two years.
According to Mourinho, he agreed to a three-year contract and will officially take charge ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.
He said, “After the meetings with the ownership and Tiago pinto, I immediately understood the full extent of their ambitions for AS Roma.
“It is the same ambition and drive that has always motivated me and together we want to build a winning project over the upcoming years.
“The incredible passion of the Roma fans convinced me to accept the job and I cannot wait to start next season.”
The 58-year-old manager will return to Italy where he enjoyed a successful two years as manager of Inter Milan, leading the Nerazzurri to two Scudetto and a Champions League triumph in 2010.
Currently, Roma sits seventh in Serie A with four games left in the season. The Italian club is coming off a 6-2 defeat in the first leg of its Europa League semifinal meeting against Mourinho’s former side, Manchester United.
Recall, Mourinho was relieved of his duty on April 19, where he was in charge of Tottenham for 17 months after his dismissal was confirmed six days before his chance of helping the club win its first trophy since 2018 in the League Cup final, but Spur went on to lose the match against Manchester City with the interim manager, Ryan Mason.
However, Mourinho had previously coached Chelsea, Real Madrid, and FC Porto.
