Lagos, Nigeria—A big fire broke out early Tuesday morning at Ladipo Market, burning down shops and destroying goods worth millions of Naira. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but many shop owners lost valuable items like phones, electronics, and car spare parts.
How Did It Happen?
According to Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, a top official from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the fire started because of an electrical power surge. This means that when electricity was restored after being off, it caused a spark that led to the fire.
The Quick Response
The fire started around midnight, and emergency services got the first call at 12:09 AM. Within seven minutes, firefighters and rescue workers arrived at the scene to put out the flames.
What Was Lost?
Many shop owners lost their goods, including:
- Electronics (like televisions and radios)
- Generators (machines that produce electricity)
- Bicycles
- Car spare parts
- Phones and other home appliances
Staying Safe in the Future
The authorities have spoken to shop owners about how to prevent another fire in the future. They advised them to be careful with electrical wiring and to have fire safety equipment like extinguishers.
While no lives were lost, the fire was a big loss for many business owners, and they now have to start over.
