Microsoft set new plans to unify OneNote for Windows-10 with OneNote desktop app

Microsoft has revealed plans to merge its OneNote for Windows 10 and OneNote for the desktop app together.

The software company is aspiring to take all the modifications in its UWP OneNote for windows 10 and bring them over to the OneNote desktop app.

The modifications are said to occur in a series of updates in the next 12 months within the formal OneNote desktop app that was installed as part of Office.

The updates will include a visual refresh and some “key existing features that are currently unique to OneNote for Windows 10.” But it wasn’t clear which features from OneNote for Windows 10 will make their way over to the OneNote desktop app. Microsoft admitted, “We are working to ensure that all the most loved features continue to be a part of the unified OneNote.”

According to The Verge, Microsoft also said existing users of the OneNote for Windows 10 app will be asked to upgrade to the desktop OneNote app in the second half of 2022.

Meanwhile, a source from the OneNote team at Microsoft explained that the advances in Windows and Office will allow them to unify the two apps so that users can have the simplicity of a single OneNote app on Windows while enjoying the interface and features which users are already familiar with.”

The source also revealed that Microsoft will not kill the UWP version of OneNote for Windows 10 immediately. Adding that the company said OneNote users should move to the desktop app by October 2025, when OneNote for Windows 10 support system will come to an end.

He furthermore said the OneNote modifications will not affect other Microsoft’s OneNote apps for macOS, iOS, Android, or web. Because according to Microsoft, it’s simply centralizing its different OneNote apps into something that hopefully has the best of the UMP and desktop worlds. The source added.
