A lecturer identified as Pelumi Adewale has been sacked from Kwara State University (KWASU).
The lecturer was sacked for threatening to fail a female student over sex and for inviting her to come to write the examination in his bedroom.
Goldennationblog.com gathered that one of the students in the institution, Tosin Adegunsoye, of the department of Pure and Applied Sciences, accused the lecturer for sexually bullying her.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the vice-chancellor at KWASU, Mustapha Akanbi, announced Adewale’s dismissal in Ilorin on Monday.
NAN reported that the VC made this announcement while speaking at a news conference to celebrate the eighth and ninth convocation ceremonies of the institution.
The VC said that Adewale had stopped being a lecturer of the school for bringing the institution into dishonor.
He added that ”The security agency has taken up the case and it is in court already. The man is now an ex-staff member of the institution. He is a disgrace to our great institution and we won’t condone such acts.”
It was gathered that on September 11, Adewale was arraigned before a magistrate court in Ilorin, over an accusation of sexual harassment.
The presiding magistrate, Ibrahim Mohammed, in his ruling, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000.
The magistrate thereafter adjourned the case till December 8 for further mention.
Meanwhile, the suspect was arrested by the State Intelligence Bureau (SID) over offenses bordering on criminal intimidation, sexual harassment, and examination malpractices.
In the petition submitted by Adegunsoye dated October 15 had claimed that Adewale, a lecturer employed to teach her a course, called and threatened to fail her in her coming examination if she refused to have sexual intercourse within view of the threat.
The police thereafter instructed Adegunsoye to play along to obtain raw evidence until the lecturer persuaded the student into his bedroom quarters around 8:30 pm at Taoheed Road, Basin Area, Ilorin, where he gave her a new question paper and KWASU answer script to rewrite her examination.
It was in this process the suspect was arrested by the operatives who were hiding in a closed setting.
