The Delta State House of Assembly has announced that a public hearing will take place on Friday, May 9, 2025, to talk about changes to the Delta State Community Security Corps Agency law.
The event will happen at the Press Center of the Delta State House of Assembly Complex, located on Okpanam Road, Asaba. It will start at 10:00 in the morning.
This public hearing is being organized by two groups in the House: the Special Committee on Bills and the House Committee on Peace and Security.
The Chairman of the Joint Committee and Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, shared a statement inviting the public, especially important groups and leaders, to share their ideas about the new law. These ideas can be shared by writing (called a “memorandum”) or speaking at the event.
The Assembly is asking for input from:
- Delta State Police Command
- Department of State Services (DSS)
- Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)
- Ministry of Justice
- Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Delta State Chapter
- Delta State Security Trust Fund
- Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers
- Directorate of Political and Security Matters
- Nigeria Bar Association (NBA)
- Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)
- Other members of the public and private sector
Anyone sending in a written memorandum should make 30 copies, put them in a sealed envelope, and address them to the Chairman, Joint Committee on Special Committee on Bills and Committee on Peace and Security. These should be given to the Clerk of the Committee by Thursday, May 8, 2025.
The Assembly says it is important for everyone involved in security and community matters to take part because their ideas will help shape a better and safer Delta State.
This public hearing follows a decision made by the House during their meeting on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, where the bill was sent to the joint committee for deeper review.
