Infrastructure Boost as Delta EXCO Approves ₦42bn Projects

The Delta State Government has approved a fresh round of infrastructure projects valued at over ₦42 billion, covering road construction and rehabilitation, erosion and flood control, as well as improvements to electricity supply across different parts of the state.

The approvals were granted at a meeting of the Delta State Executive Council (EXCO) presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, as part of the administration’s ongoing drive to accelerate development and address critical infrastructure needs.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, said the projects were carefully selected to improve connectivity, protect public infrastructure from erosion and flooding, and strengthen power supply for homes and businesses.

Aniagwu, who spoke alongside the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr Sunny Ekedayen, and the Governor’s Executive Assistants on Public Enlightenment, Projects and Policies, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, and New Media, Mr Felix Ofou, explained that the approvals cut across several local government areas and were aimed at boosting economic activities and enhancing the quality of life of residents.

According to him, EXCO approved major road works along the Old Lagos–Asaba Road, including the reconstruction of Phase Two from Obior to Ubulu-Uku in Aniocha North and Aniocha South Local Government Areas, as well as the Ute-Ogbeje to Ebuenor and Ani-Nwachokor routes in Ika North East.

He disclosed that some ongoing road projects had their costs reviewed upward due to rising market prices of construction materials, as well as earlier delays caused by weather conditions and funding challenges.

“The Council approved the upward review of the Ute-Ogbeje to Otolokpo Road and also approved the construction of Etua-Etiti and Etua-Oliogo internal roads in Ndokwa West, to allow contractors to fully mobilise and complete the projects within schedule,” Aniagwu said.

The commissioner further disclosed that EXCO approved erosion control works around the Asaba International Airport to safeguard critical infrastructure, while flood control measures would be extended along Dennis Osadebay Way, from the traffic light to Abraka Road, an area that has suffered severe erosion and flooding.

Other road projects approved include the completion of internal roads in Otorho-Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area, and the construction of Imohwe Street in Ughelli, aimed at improving access and reducing traffic challenges in the affected communities.

On power supply, Aniagwu said the council approved the replacement of a faulty 15MVA transformer, the installation of new 300KVA transformers, and the rehabilitation of substations and supporting equipment to improve electricity supply in Udu and neighbouring communities.

“These are deliberate interventions by the Oborevwori administration to strengthen energy supply, support businesses, and improve living conditions for our people,” he said.

The commissioner also announced that Governor Oborevwori has signed the ₦1.7 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, noting that over 70 per cent of the budget is allocated to capital expenditure, with a strong focus on infrastructure development.

He assured residents that the state government would continue to prioritise development despite the approaching election season, stressing that all projects would follow due procurement processes before execution.

Aniagwu expressed confidence that the approved projects would significantly improve infrastructure, boost economic growth, and advance Delta State’s development, while thanking residents and stakeholders for their continued support of the administration’s programmes.
