The acting Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has announced the appointment of CP Abutu Yaro, as the new Commissioner of Police in Imo State that will take over from CP Nasiru Mohammed who was deployed to the state in January 2021.
This was made known in a statement to newsmen by the spokesperson of the Nigerian Police Force, Frank Mba, on Tuesday, May 4.
According to the Inspector General of Police, stated that under CP Mohammed, police stations in Imo State were attacked repeatedly including the State Police Command Headquarters and the Nigerian Correctional Center which has led to the escape of hundreds of inmates from the correctional facility.
He said the appointment of CP Yaro as the new Commissioner of Police for Imo State is an effort made by the Police leadership towards strengthening security, tackling violent crimes, and reinforcing optimal coordination of police operations within the State.
IGP Baba stated that CP Yaro is an operationally minded Cop who was a fellow of the National Defence College and the immediate-past Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command.
Baba said, Zamfara State also has a new Commissioner of Police, CP Hussaini Rabiu while CP Nasiru Mohammed has been redeployed to Western Port Authority, Lagos.
Baba also stated other Commissioner of Police that were affected by the posting and redeployment stating that CP John Amadi mni, has been posted from Western Port Authority, Lagos to Airport Police Command, Ikeja, Lagos, while CP Anderson Bankole, posted to Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Ikoyi, Lagos, also CP Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu posted to the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA), Force Headquarters, Abuja as the Commissioner of Police, DFA.
Meanwhile, the IGP has charged the newly posted Commissioners to adopt their best experience in their practice to help improve the police and restore public confidence in their place of assignments.
Also, he further assured citizens of his intention to build up the strategies of the Force to improve public safety and tackles all forms of crimes in the country under his leadership.
