The Indigenous Correspondents Chapel (ICC) has congratulated Uba Dorathy Mbasen on her victory in the recently concluded elections of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ). Dorathy emerged as the Financial Secretary in the new executive led by Comrade Sonia Unobunjo.
In a statement signed by Comrade Kenneth Orusi, Chairman of ICC, and Comrade Michael Odiah, Secretary of ICC, the group described Dorathy’s victory as a reflection of the confidence, trust, and admiration that members have in her leadership qualities and dedication to service.
The statement read:
“This victory reflects the confidence, trust, and admiration of members who have recognised your commitment, leadership qualities, and readiness to serve. Your emergence is a clear mandate to deliver purposeful leadership, promote inclusiveness, and sustain the ideals of progress and accountability.”
The ICC expressed optimism that under Dorathy’s stewardship, NAWOJ will experience renewed energy, innovative ideas, and stronger collaboration among members. The group encouraged her and the new executive to uphold the values of transparency, dedication, and people-centered leadership.
“As you begin this new chapter, we urge you to remain steadfast, transparent, and people-focused in all your endeavours as an ambassador of ICC,” the statement added.
The Indigenous Correspondents Chapel concluded by congratulating Comrade Uba Dorathy Mbasen and the entire Sonia Unobunjo-led executive once again, wishing them a fruitful and impactful tenure in advancing the cause of women journalists in Nigeria.
