Popular Nigerian musician Azeez Fashola, better known as Naira Marley, has spoken out after a court ruled that he was not involved in the death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
On Tuesday, the Yaba Magistrate Court dismissed all allegations against Naira Marley, his associate Sam Larry, and another individual Prime Boy. However, the court found that an auxiliary nurse who gave Mohbad an injection, along with his friend Ayobami, would face prosecution for negligence.
Following the ruling, Naira Marley shared an emotional statement on X (formerly Twitter), expressing his pain, frustration, and disappointment over how he was treated after Mohbad’s tragic passing.
Naira Marley’s Emotional Statement
In his post, Naira Marley said that although he and Mohbad had their differences, they settled their issues before the singer’s untimely death. He criticized those who accused him without evidence and allowed false stories to spread.
He wrote:
> “I never thought silence could be so loud. I never thought someone I called my brother, someone I protected, would leave this world with my name in his shadow. I have carried this weight, this pain, this shame that was never mine to bear.”
He insisted that the problems between them were business-related, not personal and that they made peace before Mohbad died.
> “Mistakes were made, but they were business—never war. I made peace with Mohbad. We understood each other beyond the noise, beyond the misunderstandings.”
Naira Marley also accused certain people of changing the story multiple times and letting the public believe lies about him. He expressed disappointment that Mohbad had not yet been buried, saying that those who failed to tell the truth from the start were responsible for the delay.
> “You never thought I would survive. You never thought I would walk through the fire and face my people. Maybe you hoped I would stay a fugitive. You thought I would run. Instead, I stood before the justice system, spent time in jail, and faced everything head-on.”
He concluded by saying that God knows the truth and that time will reveal everything.
A Case That Shook Nigeria
The death of Mohbad, a rising star in the Nigerian music industry, caused a huge public outcry. Many people believed that his past conflicts with Naira Marley and Sam Larry could have played a role in his tragic death. Even though Marley denied any involvement, public opinion was divided, and many demanded justice.
Mohbad, who was formerly signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Music, left the record label after a public fallout, which led to speculations about their relationship.
With the court clearing Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and Prime Boy, attention is now shifting to the nurse and Mohbad’s friend Ayobami, who has been charged with reckless and negligent acts related to his death.
As Mohbad’s burial is still delayed, fans and Nigerians are still seeking closure and justice for the late singer.
