Fast-rising Nigerian singer BoyPee, has shared the remarkable story behind how Davido was featured on the remix of his hit song ‘Ogechi’ just the night before the superstar’s traditional wedding.
The original version of ‘Ogechi,’ a collaboration between BoyPee, Hyce, and Brown Joel, was released in May. However, the remix featuring Davido was dropped on June 26, just a day after Davido’s wedding.
In a recent interview on HipTV, BoyPee, along with his collaborators, recounted the unexpected and thrilling turn of events that led to the high-profile feature.
BoyPee revealed that he received an unexpected call from socialite Cubana Chief Priest, who is also a close friend of Davido. During the call, Cubana Chief Priest informed him that Davido wanted to speak with him. Excited and overwhelmed, BoyPee recalled how he could barely process the conversation.
“Cubana Chief Priest called me on video and asked where I was. I told him I was on the road, and then he said David wanted to talk to me. When I saw David, I just started shouting. He was laughing, but I couldn’t listen to anything he was saying. The only thing I caught was that I should come to Cubana’s house,” BoyPee shared.
Rushing to meet the Afrobeats star, BoyPee and his team made their way to Cubana Chief Priest’s residence, where Davido asked them to head to the studio immediately. Despite being in the midst of planning his wedding, Davido made time to record the remix of ‘Ogechi’ that same night.
“We mixed the song before morning and dropped it the next day. He was planning his wedding when we went to the studio, and it all felt like it was God-designed,” BoyPee said.
The collaboration has since drawn significant attention, further establishing BoyPee as one of Nigeria’s promising new talents in the music industry.
