The Delta State Judiciary has revealed that a total number of 1,056 cases have been disposed of in the first quarter of the year.
Presenting the 2020 first-quarter report made available by the office of the State Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Marshal Umukoro reveals that out of 1056 disposed of cases, civil matters consisted of 563, criminal cases 297 while Fundamental Human Right was196.
While out of the 5697 civil matters pending in the High Court at the various Judicial Divisions across the State in the quarter under review, over 4500 were land matters, 1451 criminal cases, and 947 fundamental human rights actions.
The State Chief Judge attributed the swift disposition of cases by high courts to the full implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) 201the 7, the dedication of Judges, timely relevant practice directions, reduction of frivolous adjournments and petitions, cooperation of the members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the ongoing radical reformation in the gamut of the justice system.
Justice Umukoro asserted that with the renovation of courts, befitting court ambiance, provision of Laptops, and installation of Law Pavilion (legal research tool) on the Laptops of Judicial Officers, Revenue Court Judges and Magistrates, the Judiciary was better repositioned to speedily administer justice for the interest of all.
The chief judge commended the state executive and legislative arms for their cooperation and support to ensuring that the State Judiciary was given en enabling environment to discharge its Constitutional responsibility.
Justice Umukoro guaranteed stakeholders the administration of justice that the third arm of government was poised than ever before to protect the right of the common man.
