Port Harcourt, March 2, 2025 – The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has addressed the people about a recent Supreme Court decision that affects the state’s political situation.
In his speech, the governor acknowledged that the court has made its ruling, and although he and his government do not fully agree with it, they must respect and follow the law. He reassured the people that his government has always worked according to the rules and constitution of Nigeria.
The governor also mentioned that he has met with his team of lawyers, and they expect to receive the official court documents by Friday, March 7, 2025. Once they receive them, they will carefully review the details and follow the necessary steps to keep the state moving forward.
One major decision announced by Governor Fubara is about local government leadership. Since the Supreme Court has ruled against caretaker committees in local government areas, the governor has directed the Heads of Local Government Administration to immediately take charge of all 23 local government councils in the state. He also ordered the outgoing local government chairmen to hand over their offices by Monday, March 3, 2025.
The governor admitted that Rivers State is going through a difficult time but urged everyone to stay calm and continue with their daily activities. He promised that the government would keep working to ensure the stability and development of the state.
He ended his speech by thanking the people and asking for God’s blessings on Rivers State.
