Fight Breaks Out Over Election in Delta Community

A serious fight happened in Tuomo, a community in Delta State, because of disagreements over who should vote in an upcoming election. Several people were injured, with four suffering deep machete cuts.

How the Fight Started

The problem began when supporters of different candidates argued about the delegate list—this is the list of people allowed to vote in the election for the community’s new chairman.

One of the candidates, Mr Warebi Morentei Edonyabo (also known as Double-Lane), said that one of his supporters was attacked right in front of his house. His other supporters fought back, making the attackers run away and leave behind six machetes.

Call for Security

After the fight, Mr Edonyabo asked the government to send security officers to prevent further violence.

Chief Ebikapaye Agidee, a respected leader in the community, urged everyone to follow the rules and keep the peace. He reminded them that another part of the community, Akerebunou Quarters, recently held a peaceful election and encouraged Tuomo residents to do the same.

Church Leader Speaks Out

A local church leader, Apostle Akebofa Freedom, also spoke about the issue. He asked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to make sure politicians do not interfere with the election.

He warned against forcing a different leader on the community, saying that Chief Agidee is already leading well and the people are happy with him.

What Happens Next?

Now, the community is waiting to see what the government will do to ensure a fair and peaceful election.
