FBI Arrests Nigerian Local Government Chairman for Alleged Multi-Million Dollar Fraud

Franklin Nwadialo, the newly elected chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area in Anambra State, Nigeria, has been arrested by the FBI in Texas, USA. His arrest is tied to allegations of orchestrating a $3.3 million romance scam.

According to reports, Nwadialo allegedly used online personas to deceive multiple victims over several years, claiming financial distress to solicit large sums of money.

U.S. Attorney Tessa Gorman noted that he was apprehended on arrival at a Texas airport, and if found guilty, he could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years for wire fraud.

The Anambra State government has distanced itself from the matter, stating that Nwadialo’s political affiliations do not directly reflect on the state administration.

Meanwhile, local officials and political leaders have discussed a possible interim leadership for Ogbaru Local Government while Nwadialo faces prosecution.
